Hi, I’m Malaika Hollist, and I’m taking you neighborhood by neighborhood to discover the art, culture, and local character of the Greater Tampa Bay Region.
I love Ybor City because there’s really nowhere else in Tampa that feels quite like it. I also love that while it evolves as a Tampa native, it has always still felt the same. History is everywhere and so are the chickens. From the brick streets and old cigar factories to the chickens casually wandering around like they own the place. There are still so many locally owned shops, restaurants, galleries, and creative spaces bringing something new to the neighborhood while keeping its character intact. As one of my favorite spots in Tampa, I suggest you check out this historic corner.
