James Suggs Plays Side Door

A concert recorded in the Side Door Café at the Palladium in St. Petersburg, FL. The concert was a tribute to jazz icon Miles Davis and was headlined by Tampa Bay trumpeter James Suggs. Joining James were tenor saxophonist Jeremy Carter, bassist Brandon Robertson, pianist John Richardson and drummer Jean Bolduc. Special guest Austin Vickrey also appeared on alto saxophone. In the episode host and producer Mike Cornette interviews Suggs and Palladium Executive Director Paul Wilborn. The concert was mixed by Connor Hawkins.

Carter Plays Coltrane

This month, we featured “Carter Plays Coltrane” featuring Tampa-based saxophonist Jeremy Carter. The performance was recorded in July of 2019 at the Side Door Cabaret at the Palladium. Backing Carter was the veteran Tampa Bay trio La Lucha with Mark Feinman on drums, John O’Leary piano, and Alejandro Arenas on bass. The broadcast will also feature interviews with Carter and Palladium Executive Director Paul Wilborn.

Whitney James Recorded Live on Side Door at the Palladium

This month's edition of "Side Door at the Palladium" features singer and former WUSF All Night Jazz host Whitney James recorded live at the Side Door Cafe at the Palladium at St. Petersburg College. She is accompanied by the jazz trio La Lucha and guitarist LaRue Nickelson.

James Meets James

Vocalist Whitney James is joined by trumpeter James Suggs and La Lucha (John O’Leary, Alejandro Arenas, and Mark Feinman) in our performance studio for live music and conversation with Mike Cornette in advance of their upcoming “James Meets James, Ballads and Blues” concert at the Palladium.

Vocalist Stacey Kent and saxophonist Jim Tomlinson, the husband-wife jazz team based in the UK, are making a rare swing through Florida, with an appearance in St. Petersburg with Nate Najar’s Trio. And they stop by for a visit and live performance at WUSF! Get to know Stacey, Jim, and Nate, as they join Bob Seymour in conversation and perform live in the studio, on All Night Jazz.

La Lucha - August 6, 2015

The members of the band, La Lucha, got to know one another at USF several years ago. The trio’s latest album, ‘Standards Not Standards,’ received airplay around the country and has been a favorite this year here at WUSF. They stop by All Night Jazz for a visit and performance.
